0.5cupfreshly squeezed orange juice (about 2-3 oranges)
0.25cuplow-sodium soy sauce
2tablespoonshoney or maple syrup
1tablespoonrice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
1tablespoonfreshly grated ginger
2clovesgarlic, minced (about 1 teaspoon)
1teaspooncornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (optional, for thickening)
1tablespoonsesame oil
2green onionsfinely sliced (for garnish)
1tablespoontoasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
Prepare the Marinade: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the fresh orange juice, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, grated ginger, and minced garlic. Whisk the mixture until all ingredients are thoroughly blended and the honey is fully dissolved.
Marinate the Salmon: Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag. Pour the teriyaki marinade over the salmon, ensuring each piece is coated well. Cover or seal the dish/bag and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the fish.
Preheat Cooking Surface: Meanwhile, preheat your grill or oven to 375°F (190°C). If using an oven, line a baking dish with parchment paper for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
Prepare for Cooking: After marinating, take the salmon out of the marinade, reserving the marinade for later use.
Cooking Options: Grilling: Brush the grill grates with sesame oil to prevent sticking. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down on the grill. Cook for approximately 4-5 minutes per side, turning carefully to avoid breaking the fillets, and baste occasionally with the reserved marinade for added flavor. Baking: Arrange the salmon fillets in the prepared baking dish, skin-side down. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, basting with the reserved marinade halfway through the cooking time. The salmon is ready when it flakes easily when tested with a fork.
Thickening the Sauce (Optional): If you desire a thicker sauce, pour the remaining marinade into a small saucepan. Heat it over medium heat until it comes to a gentle simmer. Stir in the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with water) and whisk continuously until the sauce thickens slightly, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
Serving the Dish: Once the salmon is cooked to perfection, carefully transfer it to serving plates. Drizzle the thickened sauce over the salmon fillets for an extra burst of flavor.
Garnish and Enjoy: Finish your plate with a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds and a generous scattering of sliced green onions for a fresh, vibrant touch.
